Meaning and Practice of Yoga

The word Yoga literally means “becoming One”.
The idea that you have to do something to get there is just a mental programme running.
Instead of doing something, it is about gradually opening up to the realisation that everything is One and it is expressing itself through you. This realisation requires an ethic, towards yourself and others, since there is no distinction between you, so-called others and all that lives.
In gradually opening up in it is important to listen carefully to life, as it is life itself that guides you. Practicing yoga can bring you the sensitivity and confidence needed for this and thus empower you.

The classes

During the sessions, you are guided through a series of gentle movements and occasionally intense postures.
Moving slowly and approaching your body with kindness, attentiveness, curiosity, and understanding can lead to a new way of seeing—and, in turn, a new way of being. It may offer a path to transform habits and patterns that are no longer serving you.

Asha Meditation

As part of the retreat, there are six meditations known as Asha meditation.
The first part of the Asha Meditation involves a steady rhythm played on a drum to ease the transition into a meditative state. The second part takes place in silence.
For yoga retreats that begin on Thursdays, it is helpful to know that, in principle, there is a gathering on Thursday in Nijár (Spain) with Yoginâm, connected online to the Asharum. These gatherings begin with lute and drum as an introduction to the HarpMood by Yoginâm. When planning your journey and arrival time, please note that this gathering starts at 17:45.

A sense of unity and tranquillity

It is possible to spend entire days—or selected parts of the day—in silence. Silence, in combination with yoga and meditation, offers a beautiful way to begin experiencing a sense of connectedness and to find calm. The retreat invites you to slow down and open yourself, allowing a gentle spaciousness and lightness to emerge in both body and mind.

This Yoga retreat is guided by Katelijn

I am gradually moving along a path where sensations, the use of the senses, the imagination of the body, and the experience of spaciousness, lightness, and breath are becoming increasingly important. The asana—or any other movement or posture—is something that arises from within, rather than being an externally imposed form to which the body must conform.
During the sessions, I like to take the freedom to incorporate other movement practices, such as Chi-Kung and Do-In from the shiatsu tradition, when they support the opening of the body and the engagement of the senses.
Through my teaching, I hope to evoke a sense of playfulness that invites us to look beyond our own beliefs, as well as to offer the experience of the body as a gateway or bridge to a meditative state.

Katelijn has a background as a yoga teacher in Critical Alignment Yoga. She is also a Zen Shiatsu therapist, having completed her training at the Zen Shiatsu School led by Joyce Vlaarkamp in Amsterdam.

Comments:

The way in which Katelijn guides you through the exercises is very subtle and with great effect. Her words speak to the imagination and at the same time have a very direct influence and effect on the physical experience.
Machteld, April 2019

The effect of the yoga classes is still present, it's as if I view the world differently and more positively, I have exactly lost my luggage from the past months.
